BEDROOM CHIC: A guide to finding the perfect match between your personality and your favourite room!

divaWhat’s your interior motive?

Yup, that’s right. I did say “interior,” because when it comes to getting your ‘bedroom chic’ on, a woman can definitely turn to her own inner guru for guidance! Interior decorating can be summed up as the way we put together colour, shapes, and textures in our spaces, and of course, how we do this is largely determined by our personalities.

That’s why most of us don’t perceive our bedrooms as just a room with a bed anymore! Our bedrooms have become our personal islands - a nook to retreat and unwind…far away from our hectic schedules. So are you the Earthy Girl, Diva, Sophisticate, or Modernist?

The Earthy Girl In your world, things just aren’t complicated. You’re just on a personal journey for balance and harmony in the universe. The words simple and natural embody you. Chances are, you have a love of recycled materials and a penchant for owning environmentally- friendly works of art. Your idea of a perfect vacation is communing with nature on a lush eco-resort, sipping a fruity cocktail, and dipping your naked toes in the crystal clear waters of a natural pool!

Your paint colours:
Soothing blues, aquamarines, greens, khakis, and beiges.

On your bed:
Nubby raw silk textiles, cool linens, batik, and hand-painted throw cushions.

Your drapery:
Gauzy cotton or linen drapes with tab-tops on rustic drapery rods.

On your floor:
Sisal or bamboo rugs. Your accessories: A vase containing fresh fl owers, woven baskets, framed landscape or wildlife photos, seashells, wooden sculptures, and mosaic mirrors.

You love to make an entrance at a party. It’s no secret that amongst your friends, you’re the “glamorous” one! Let’s be honest; you just can’t help being dramatic! That’s just who you are…and that’s why your bedroom is just one of your more important indulgences. You think nothing of swiping your light bulbs with a thin coat of perfumed oil to send an intoxicating aroma throughout your bedroom!

Your paint colours:
Bold reds, fuchsia pinks and purples accented with black, silver or gold metallics.

On your bed:
Perhaps a fabric-draped or upholstered headboard.

Your drapery:
Rich, velvet drapes with exaggerated swags or valances.

Your flooring:
A faux fur rug or a fluffy, fl okatiki rug for curling up on.

Your accessories:
Plumes and feathers, bold hats, sparkly chandeliers, crystal-accented lamps, chunky candles, and large mirrors. caribbean BELLE

caribbean BELLEIn the midst of love’s bliss, it is easy to forget that the idea of a perfect marriage is just a fairytale myth. We have heard the ‘happily ever after’ ending so many times since our childhood that we have subconsciously come to automatically expect the same from real life too. Yet, everyone knows deep down that married life is not perfect and there will be ups and downs in any marriage, just like in any other aspect of life. After all, we even say, ‘for better or for worse, in good times and in bad’ as part of the traditional marriage vows...Click here to read more

dealing with a stillborn, miscarrige, infertility and the unexpected

caribbean BELLEThe doctor's eyes were very sorrowful. He apologised and told us that he could not find a heartbeat. Mary-Lou started breathing heavily, repeating, “No, no, no.” I tried to hug her but it was very awkward because of how she was lying. I didn’t know what to think or say; I just focused on Mary-Lou, trying to hold her. Mary-Lou started groaning, then crying, then stopped and just stared at the ceiling. Hundreds of things were going through my head about what this meant – memories of our hopes, confusion about what needed to happen next, fears of it’s implications on Mary-Lou. I felt this was the worst thing that could have happened. The baby was nine days late by then, and was going to be induced on the following Monday. It was full term and fully developed; it had grown these nine months, and now, nothing...Click here to read more
